Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?

As of September 1, 2019, Texas became a direct access state. What this means for you is that you can come see a physical therapist for the first 10 consecutive days without a referral from your doctor.  After the 10 days, we will require that a referral be sent to us by your doctor or specialist to continue. Your doctor or specialist may choose to sign your initial evaluation instead. A signed initial evaluation report can substitute the need for a referral. At times, you may need to see your doctor to get a referral or have your initial evaluation report signed.

It is important to note that some insurances may require a referral regardless of direct access. If you do not know if your insurance requires a referral, please call our office at (956) 994-8880 and speak to one of our front office specialists.
